New Video for Yann Tierssen track ‘The Trial’ By Hold Out Director Sam Wilkins co-directed with Hold Out Cameraman Ben Norton released.
The video was shot quickly over two days half in the studio and half out in the New Forest in the south of the UK. The brief sent asked for something similar in tone to the cover of dust lane album which shows an old car out in the autumnal woods, so using this as a starting point myself and Ben Norton went out and just shot a lot of textures and vignettes without any real agenda. We then shot some slow motion of the girl in the studio with a clear idea that we wanted to use a closeup of her eye. The lyrics present the girl with a trial and the music has a constant driving energy that became the basis for this cosmic eye tunnel - the window on her soul that continues on and on.
The New Trailer for Hold Out is now up on the site.
Updates soon to follow
Over on indiewire you can read the first chapter of Reed Martin’s new book - it has some great advice form different directors on getting their first movie made, including finance figures, fund raising, matching directors to producers and how damn hard it is to make that first movie.
We now have an imdb page up and running! We have been submitting for festivals and wait with bated breath for more news.
Behind The Scenes Pictures
In pic 1 you can see Gabriel and Nick share a moment while Joel our Set Designer/Dresser wafts more smoke
In Pic 2 DOP Dave Litchfield goes hand held for a scary moment in the film. Its interesting to see how much light is needed to create ‘darkness’ on screen
(Why does it always look like everyone just stands around doing nothing in behind the scenes pics on a film set?)
UPDATE!!! I’m now married!!!!!!
Sorry for the radio silence - I got married two weeks ago to the amazing and talented Louise Wilkins (previously Boulter) and have just returned from my honeymoon in Devon, UK, which was amazingly sunny and incredibly enjoyable! I managed to put the film, my masters and work out of my mind during a much needed break and holiday with my beautiful new wife and am feeling much rested and excited to be back now and working on the film again.
We have a new website up and running at the same address www.holdout.co.uk and we are now going to be promoting the film like crazy to try and get it into as many film festivals as we can! Unfortunately we can’t put it online yet due to many of the festival submission criteria, but I’ll put some behind the scenes shots and videos up soon.
Here are some top tips on festivals for your perusal
The First Teaser Trailer for ‘Hold Out’
We want to say a special thanks to all those who have been involved with the production up to this point, but a super special thanks to Trole Industries, who’s support made the production possible.
The shoot lasted five long and hard days. In that time which we took over the village hall of the lovely village of Melbury Abbas in Dorset and lived and breathed (all the dust) of the Old Forge. Our main characters played by Danny Cutler, Gabriel Vick and Nick Evans were put through their paces under very difficult conditions and they have done a wonderful job.
The rough cut is nearing completion and we hope you enjoy the trailer
PS Shooting films is hard
Production is Wrapped! What an adventure, what a lot of hard work - a Thousand Thanks to all involved!
We finished sorting the rushes today and I couldn’t help starting with an effects and colour grade test.
In this pic you can see the character of Tommy, played by Gabriel Vick, in full makeup as he continues to torment the character of Garvey. More updates will follow soon
